Department of Periodontics::

Periodontics is that specialty of dentistry which encompasses the prevention diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the supporting and surrounding tissues of the teeth or their substitutes, such as dental implants. The specialty also concerns itself with the maintenance of health, function and esthetics of these structures and tissues.

The Section of Periodontics has a wide range of activities covering all aspects of Periodontics, bone regeneration and surgical implant procedures. Research is a core activity of the section with many contributions that have developed in platelet Rich Plasma, Biochemistry of Gingival Crevicular Fluid, advanced diagnostic aids and surgical techniques for bone regeneration around teeth, alveolar bone and dental implants. As well as there are ongoing research projects focused on the role of bacteria in the development of periodontal disease and studies in the Epidemiology, Immunology and Systemic diseases involvement in periodontal disease.
